TANSY MAKI

Conceptual Art Designer/Sculptor/ Professional Artist /Painter /Muralist

Tansy Maki is a Caymanian/Canadian artist based in Grand Cayman for over 24 years.

Tansy's work has been commissioned throughout the Caribbean, Europe, North and South America.

Maki’s mixed media, sculptural, and textural art, creates with a high level of craftsmanship using a skillful manipulation of media and careful integration of shape, texture, surface, and colour.  Often mixing materials and processes in surprising ways, creating organic, yet original, shapes and forms from both natural and man-made materials.

Her work undertakes a closely engaged technical process in which constant examination and reconfiguration push each work forward to evolve into the finished piece.

Maki’s work strikes a delicate balance between traditional and contemporary.

“My paintings are typically acrylic on canvas with mixed media, and consist of vivid colors, intuitively applied in layers with a sense of flow and transparency.

I feel there is honesty in materials that are in a natural state, organic and raw , wood and stone and the merging of these with other materials offers a beautiful and inspiring contrast that most anyone can relate to.”

My interest remains in exploring the space between the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional, hybridizing painting, textile and sculpture "
